3-Day Tour of the Sicilian Villages of Eastern Sicily

Day 1: Montalbano Elicona and Novara di Sicilia

Our journey begins in Montalbano Elicona, a charming Sicilian village that is home to the Castle of Frederick II, one of the most significant examples of medieval architecture in Sicily. The structure rises majestically over an intricate urban fabric of winding, irregular alleyways, fitting perfectly into the shape of the rocky promontory. You will have free time to explore the village and have lunch of your choice, discovering typical Sicilian flavours.

In the afternoon we move on to Novara di Sicilia, another jewel among Sicilian villages nestled in the mountains. Strolling through its stone-paved streets, we can admire the elegance of the church portals, balcony cornices, and ancient palazzi, which tell the history of the village from the 16th to the 18th century. We will visit the Giorginaro Mill, a water mill dating back to the 14th century, still in perfect working order, where we will see a practical demonstration of milling. At the end of the day, we will then move to a characteristic B&B for the night. Dinner will be free, allowing you to discover the local delicacies for yourself.

Day 2: Castiglione di Sicilia and Castelmola

After breakfast, we will set off for Castiglione di Sicilia, a medieval Sicilian village located on a hill between Mount Etna and the Alcantara river valley. We will stroll through its historical streets, reaching the highest point of the village, where the ancient seats of civil and religious power confront each other. Afterwards, we will participate in an excursion to the Alcantara Gorges, with a fascinating river trek through this spectacular natural scenery.

In the afternoon, we continue on to Castelmola, a Sicilian village offering breathtaking views of the Ionian coast and the majestic volcano Etna. Its picturesque streets weave up to the main square, revealing the medieval settlement. An aperitif will await you at Bar Turrisi, famous not only for its Mediterranean flavours but also for its very special décor, dedicated to the themes of fertility and virility. The evening will end with an overnight stay at the Hellenia Yachting Hotel in Giardini Naxos, with a splendid sea view.

Day 3: Taormina and Savoca

After breakfast, we head towards Taormina, the pearl of the Sicilian Ionian villages. Perched atop Mount Tauro, Taormina offers spectacular views of the turquoise sea and the summit of Mount Etna. During the visit, you will explore the Ancient Theatre, one of the most beautiful and best-preserved Greek theatres in the world, and stroll along the Corso Umberto I to discover typical shops and restaurants.

In the afternoon, we move on to Savoca, later a Sicilian village famous for being the set of Francis Ford Coppola's famous film 'The Godfather'. Its cobbled streets and restored houses bring back the beauty of ancient Sicily. We visit the famous Bar Vitelli, typical of Sicilian villages, where you can taste a delicious lemon granita and savour the traditional 'zuccarata', a typical local biscuit.
