15 APRIL TOKYO / OSHINO HOKKAI / TOKYO
In the morning, we meet with our Italian-speaking guide and begin our tour by private bus of Japan's most impressive sights, Mount Fuji. We will stop at the Fuji Visitor Centre and after lunch head to Oshino Hokkai. After Lake Oshino dried up, ponds were left in its place near Mount Fuji. The water that forms them comes from the melting snow of Mount Fuji, which filtered down over decades and formed eight ponds. It is said that Oshino Hokkai was a place where pilgrims who came to Mount Fuji to pray would immerse themselves in the pools of water and thus purify their bodies. Since the water in the ponds looks almost like an ocean and the seasonal view of Mount Fuji is renowned for its beauty, the place is very popular with tourists. This pond was classified as a Natural Monument of Japan in 1934, among the 100 most beautiful waters in Japan in 1985, and a World Heritage Site.
together with Mount Fuji in 2013. Return to the hotel in the evening. Overnight stay.
16 APRIL TOKYO / KANAZAWA
In the morning transfer by public transport to Tokyo Station and departure by fast train to Kanazawa using the Japan Rail Pass. A trip to Kanazawa is like magically diving into the Japan of the feudal period. The streets lined with stately homes, the old pleasure quarters, the castle and the magnificent Kenrokuen garden make it one of the most fascinating destinations. Kanazawa is also a veritable treasure trove of artistic handicrafts: there are Kaga-Yuzen silk kimonos, Kutani and Ohi ceramics, Wajima lacquerware treated in both leaf and gold dust, and so on. Very prestigious Nō performances also contribute to the great refinement of this city, as does the famous traditional cuisine. 17 APRIL KANAZAWA / SHIRAKAWAGO / KANAZAWA
In the morning, using the Nohi bus, we visit the UNESCO heritage village of Shirakawa-go, famous for its thatched-roof farmsteads. 19 APRIL KYOTO
A day dedicated to visiting Kyoto with an Italian-speaking guide using a private bus. You will visit the world-famous Kinkaku-ji temple, also known as the Golden Pavilion, because of its structure covered almost entirely with pure gold leaves. In addition to the pavilion, which contains the Buddha's relics, the complex is completed by a lush garden and a pond reflecting the temple's splendour. Afterwards, stop at Nijo Castle, which represents the strength and power that the shogun or warlords wielded
on the Emperor during the Edo period (1603-1867). Due to its historical importance, majesty and UNESCO World Heritage status, it is one of Japan's most famous castles. We will continue to the Kiyomizu-dera Temple, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most iconic places in Japan. Located to the east of the city, the 'Temple of Pure Water' stands on the waters of the Otowa waterfall from which it takes its name, and offers an impressive view of the city. At the end walk through the traditional quarters of Ninenzaka
and Sannenzaka, whose cobbled streets are lined with a myriad of craft shops, workshops, tea houses, small cafés and traditional restaurants. You will feel as if you are stepping back in time! Return to the hotel in the afternoon. Overnight stay.
20 APRIL KYOTO
Day at leisure for individual activities. Optional visits to Fushimi Inari and Nara can be purchased locally. Depart early in the morning for the Fushimi Inari -Taisha shrine, best known for its path through the forest, characterised by the many red torii gates under which one must pass to reach the top of the hill. We continue on to Nara. Visit the ancient capital and its emblematic sites, namely the park with its iconic deer, and Todaiji Temple with its
large statue of Buddha. At the end of the visit return by train to Kyoto. Overnight stay.
21 APRIL KYOTO / HIROSHIMA
In the morning free transfer to Kyoto Station and departure by fast train to Hiroshima. Using your Japan Rail Pass you will take the ferry to visit Miyajima "The island where men and gods coexist", a sacred place since the Itsukushima shrine was built there in 593 AD (but the buildings date back to the 12th century). This shrine, dedicated to the goddess guardian of the seas, has the distinction of being built partly in the sea, with buildings on stilts and a torii a few dozen metres offshore. The magnificent scenery, beautiful beaches and hiking trails make the island an ideal summer destination. But the island also retains its charm in autumn, with its flaming maple trees, or in spring with the cherry trees in blossom. At the end of the individual tour, return to Hiroshima by public transport. Check-in at the hotel. Overnight stay.
